Communicate Your Message

“Regardless of the changes in technology the market for well-crafted messages will always have an audience.” – Steve Burnett, the Burnett Group

Starting your own business can be overwhelming.  Once you commit to go down that road it is easy to get lost in the world of the latest and greatest technologies and the the endless options available for social networking.  I mean if you only knew how to harness that power you could reach the whole world with your great business — right?  In addition to learning all the software apps you’ve chosen, now you have to keep track of things, your calendar and to do lists as well as remembering all your account names and passwords.  So many things to think about and so many bases to cover.  Just make sure you don’t forget Home base.

Home base is your message, your unique offer of value to your customer and it needs to come through loud and clear.  In the craziness of trying to use technology to assist you, remember what it is supposed to assist you with.  All the software apps and social media sites won’t provide you value if your message is not clear.  After all, confused buyers don’t buy.  When using multiple social media sites to promote your business, look at them  objectively as if you were someone that is new to finding out about your business.  Look at your website and do the same exercise.  What is the first impression you are making and is it the one you want to make?  Remember the Seven C’s of communication: Clarity, Completeness, Conciseness, Correctness, Concreteness, Consideration and Courtesy.  Apply this to your message so that you obtain the result that you are seeking.  If your message is vague or confusing all the technology in the world won’t be able to fix it.
